I'm almost finished reading the book Stick Figure: A diary of my former self by Lori Gottlieb. It's a non fiction book, even though it is told in a diary format. It's about the life of Lori Gottlieb when she was 11 and became anorexic. Throughout the book, you can really see how the anorexia changed her from who she was in the beginning.
In the beginning of the book, Lori was a completely different person. She liked sports and loved school and wasn't very girly and didn't really care about how people saw her. For example: " ... and when I reached for a second cookie, Mom told me to save the cookies for "the guys". I asked Mom why I had to save them for the guys and she just kept saying a lady should always save dessert for the guys. But I didn't care and ate them anyway." This to me really shows her strong opinion on things, and how she isn't like her friends who were obsessed with their bodies and shopping and diets. She would rather do homework or go play sports.
Lori changed alot when she became anorexic. For one, she started comparing herself to other people became snappy and rude to her parents, her doctor and basically all the people around her. An example would be when her cousin came to visit her. "I didn't want to be in any of the pictures because I felt ugly next to Kate. Kate's so much taller and thinner than me..." Before she was anorexic she wouldn't of cared how Kate looked compared to her.But now she felt fat (even though she is 4 years younger than Kate) around someone she hardly even knew.
Lori being anorexic really changed her outlook on life and how she responded to certain things. It's kind of scary but also interesting to really see how much this eating disorder changed her life and her attitude. It also changed the people around her as well.
