girls acting catty by leslie margolis

I read the book girls acting catty by Leslie Margolis. It's mostly about these 2 girls Annabelle and Taylor. They don't get along at all.  Throughout the book, something that comes up a lot is jealousy. Whether it be between Annabelle and Taylor or someone else, jealousy is constantly mentioned or shown.

Annabelle seems to constantly be mentioning Taylor. Like for example, when they were getting tests handed back to them in class , Annabelle says " I bet Taylor got higher". This shows how sometimes without even noticing it she always is thinking about what Taylor is doing. But not in a caring light, more of a competitive way, always wanting to do better than her. Which is understandable. I mean if it was me I would be kind of upset if I knew that a person I didn't like got a better grade on something than I did. Another example is " But ever since Halloween, I didn't know how to act around Taylor. I didn't want to be nice to her, but I didn't want to be too mean either." Also, "Taylor's really pretty. Also she's super outgoing and everyone loves her, I really can't stand her." Annabelle clearly spends  a lot of time thinking about what Taylor's doing. And instead of being concerned about her personality and things, she's more concerned with how pretty Taylor is and how everyone likes her and how many friends she has. Which in the end, will make Annabelle more upset with herself than with Taylor.

However, Taylor is also extremely jealous of Annabelle at times. For example, Taylor and her friend Nikki were talking about the play "Wicked" and how they've really wanted to see it. Then, Annabelle says " Oh I've seen it, My mom knows the director." Then, Taylor looks at Annabelle and talks about how unfair it is because she loves that play so much. I can relate to Taylor here because when someone you don't like gets something you have really really, really wanted, the automatic response is usually "That's unfair" or maybe you begin to dislike them more. Even though, that might not be the correct response, it's still the one you get. But also, I don't agree with  Taylor because if she obviously doesn't like Annabelle, so why would she even talk to her, she knew it would end badly as most of their conversations do.

Overall, Jealousy is a big part of the book.  This also connects to real life. Instead of being jealous of people, we should just think about what we have, instead of focusing on what someone else has. Because, odds are they are also upset because they want exactly what you have. This will probably end up making you more stressed and annoyed with yourself more than the other person. So,we should just be happy with what we have.
